Ethiopian Animal Welfare Project Launched.

Today, 5 March 2025, the Ethiopian Veterinary Association (EVA), in collaboration with stakeholders and partners, launched an Animal welfare project at Nexus Hotel, Addis Ababa. The initiative is funded by Welttierschulzstiftung (WTS), a German charitable foundation dedicated to promoting animal welfare worldwide.
Thirty participants from various sectors attended the launch workshop, including government offices, research institutions, academia, welfare charities, and development partners. Prof. Endrias Zewdu (CEO, EVA) warmly welcomed the participants. During the workshop, Dr Bojia, president of EVA, provided a brief account about the project. He emphasized the critical importance of ensuring animal welfare within Ethiopia’s livestock
sector. Dr Bojia highlighted that the project aims to integrate WTS Animal Welfare Guidelines into livestock development initiatives; raise awareness of animal welfare principles and standards; and promote animal welfare legislation across government, development partners, professional associations, research, and academia.  Stakeholders reiterated their commitment to closely collaborating with EVA to enhance Animal
Welfare within the livestock sector of Ethiopia and beyond.
