Brooke Ethiopia, the Ethiopian Veterinary Association (EVA), and the Ethiopia Agricultural Authority (EAA) Jointly Organized a Regional Rollout Workshop on the EVMVs List

On March 1, 2025, Brooke Ethiopia, the Ethiopian Veterinary Association (EVA), and the Ethiopian Agricultural Authority (EAA) jointly organized a regional workshop in Wolaita
Soddo, Southern Ethiopia.

The workshop aimed to raise awareness and promote understanding among stakeholders of the newly developed National List of Essential Veterinary Medicines and
Vaccines (EVMVs). It also aimed to create demand for essential veterinary drugs to ensure the timely provision of those missing in Ethiopia.

The event brought together participants from four regional states: Central Ethiopia, Sidama, South Ethiopia, and South West Ethiopia. Dr. Addis Eyob, Deputy Bureau Head
of the South Ethiopia Bureau of Agriculture, warmly welcomed the participants. Keynote speeches were delivered by Prof. Endrias Zewdu (CEO, EVA) and Dr. Alemayehu
Hailemariam (Head of Program, Brooke Ethiopia). Dr. Solomon Kebede officially opened the workshop on behalf of the Director General of EAA.
In the plenary session, delegates from the organizing institutions presented key topics,
including:

1. The importance of the EVMVs
2. Updates on the EVMVs list development
3. Lessons and experiences in developing the EVMVs list
4. The need for stakeholder engagement
5. The way forward to improve access to and demand for the EVMV lists in Ethiopia

Engaging discussions were held on the presented issues, with participants conducting group work to address challenges in accessing EVMVs, explore opportunities, and
define the role of stakeholders in improving the situation.
During the closing session, participants reaffirmed their commitment to collaborating on public awareness raising and fostering local demand for the use of the EVMV lists within their respective regions. The workshop concluded with remarks from Prof. Endrias Zewdu, who expressed gratitude to the participants for their valuable contributions and dedication. He also pledged to strengthen collaboration in reaching a wider audience to enhance understanding of the EVMVs list, create local demands, and encourage the rational use of these drugs.
